Attendee Expectations and Other Notes

Explanation of Programming

The first part of the Membership Educational Forum programming is a series of classes/seminars.  Individuals need to choose what classes they would like to take before online registration is submitted, so we can plan room space accordingly.  There probably won’t be any issues getting to take the classes of your choice, but, in case there are, we will inform you of alternative arrangements.  Within this Saturday morning educational curriculum, we are offering the opportunity to take classes for the National Fraternity’s Leadership Symposium.  This option is being offered as an alternative to the traditional Leadership Academy for individuals who are interested specifically in leadership programming.  Members who take three or more blocks worth of classes in the Leadership Symposium will be recognized during the Sunday morning National Fraternity Awards presentation.  The classes considered part of the Leadership Symposium this year include the following: Effective Meeting Management, Effective Planning, Group Dynamics, and The Christian Leader.  NOTE: The Christian Leader is a class that lasts through two blocks of programming.

The second and third parts of MEF programming are large-group sessions that will involve dialogue as well as presentations.  Times and further explanations for these, as well as the Saturday morning series of seminars, are available in the Classes Syllabus document.

Attendance

Attendees need to be in attendance and on time for ALL sessions.  Those who have been registered must arrive and check in before 8:30, or they will be counted as absent and will not be eligible to play in the National Basketball Tournament.  If a member who is not on the group’s NBT roster is counted as absent, that team will receive a penalty, as noted in the eligibility requirements of the NBT document.

Dress

All attendees must be dressed in business casual attire or better for all educational sessions.  Business casual attire is defined as a collared shirt (polo or button-down), dress pants or slacks (no jeans or cargo pants), and dress shoes (no tennis/basketball shoes).  Additionally, no hats or jackets are to be worn inside during educational sessions.  If members do not comply with these requirements, they will be required to leave and change clothes and will be counted as absent.  Please dress appropriately for the weather; it can be quite cold in central Missouri in mid-January.

Alcohol/Drugs

Alcohol and/or drugs are not permitted at any time during the Membership Educational Forum, National Basketball Tournament, or any event or gathering which could be interpreted as a fraternity event.  Any member who is caught violating this policy will be subject to sanctions from the National Board of Directors.

Additional Expectations

  • Members should be fully engaged in the programming during educational sessions.  Therefore, use of cell phones or other electronic devices is not appropriate.
  • Please be courteous and respectful to all facilitators and presenters, especially those who are not members of the Fraternity.
  • Please treat all facilities with the utmost care.  In many cases, we are paying little to no money to use said facilities, and we would like to keep it that way.
